Understanding castor ratings?

I'm out of castors : (

I inherited a load but they've run out now, so I'll have to buy some.

Application is a wadkin thicknesses. It's somewhere around 350kg.

So, if on a sheet of glass, they would have to take less than 100kg each.

On an uneven floor. There's a chance the load will be on two diagonal corners only as it goes over a bump. And then what about if there's then a stone? It's no longer a static load.

A quick look shows low profile 100kg castors at £30 each! £120 for a set of 4! That's more than I think I paid for the tool!


The ones I inherited were low profile duel things. They've been fine for everything I've used them for. But are gone now.

What should I buy?

Go for the katsu machine castors with screw down rubber foot, they are fantastic

Its not an f1 car, you dont need to consider points of contact. There are plenty of cheap low profile ones on amazon with adequate ratings for under a tenner for a set..

just make sure they have NO RUBBER TYRES....Nylon or cast iron only......Cast Iron will be a lot more money....
I bought some for a similar machine and they fell apart just standing.....
ie, as soon as I moved the machine after 6months the tyres fell apart....good bearings tho....
so made new wheels from Nylon, I have a lathe.....
ps. I would say for proper made casters that price is about right.....sorry....

I bet I could collect at least 40 just by taking a 19mm deep cranked ring spanner with me when I take the dogs for a walk.

Can get four for free down this way. You even get a useful log basket thrown in for free too.
