UK Scraping Class December 2017

The guy who does the teaching asks that the price not be put on the public forum and so it's not. I already said it's for a good reason and it's actually to the benefit of those who have signed up so please let that be accepted and no more be said.

And seriously, someone typing "it's £12.50/£975/£15,683 per person" when shox originally asked would've saved a page of typing and I wouldn't have commented at all.

Pete explained that the course was full after Shox replied so why did you then bother to reply?
You're clearly not even slightly interested in going along but still felt the need to try and stir things up.

Stefan who attended the course in Denmark has posted up a couple videos of scraping. Worth watching, particularly if you are attending the course in December.
There are 2 parts:

Interesting stuff, brought back awful memories of scraping when I was an apprentice back in the old days. And that was just white metal bearings

Scrapers are much better nowadays wit carbide tips as opposed to the old has (or high carbon steel) ones. They hold an edge very well.

The date is drawing near for the UK scraping class. Today Andrew and I have been building sturdy benches. Here they are in the tractor shed ready to move into the heated workshop when the class starts.



The response to the class has been great - the class has been full for months and people still asking if there are places.

Well, the week of the scraping class has passed and I'm pleased to say it was a great success. I'm truly shattered but it was all worth it to finish off my own alignment training and watch twelve other students develop from nothing to having the knowledge to appreciate what makes a 'good' machine (and it sure as hell ain't a shiny coat of paint) and what process goes into producing one.

Well done to everyone who came to the class. I'm totally wrecked but it was worth every minute. If anyone has some really cool pictures (especially of their work) please post them up!

Can we have a rebuilding sub-section under 'Machining'? It could cover both cosmetic and mechanical rebuilds so I think it would be worthwhile.

Great job Pete, massive thanks to you and Andrew for making this such a success. I also passed a PM to Wozzah asking for a scraping and rebuilding section, so hopefully we'll see that.

We already have a tools and workshop equipment section in the projects forum, we also have the lathes and machining equipment section.
We only add new sections if there are a large number of threads that could do with being in one place.

Your call Woz. It's very specific information that will be hard to find in 'project' threads. A bit like those manufacturers' sub-sections we got that only see 6 or 7 threads a year (butters, wolf & powercraft etc). If you want to know about it you know exactly where to look.

Very true words, it’s also very satisfying to know a dieing skill is being preserved and will hopefully be passed on to the next generation. There are too many skills developed over generations being lost

Hi all, I have just been reading the above posts and wondered if there will be a scraping class in 2018?

There might be one in France, or possibly in Northern England as I heard. I don't have the time or energy to organise another this year, I have a major project on at work.
