use to get one every time I went to a mates garage not always my car my other mate use to get them every time he went there too fixed one on the car 2 weeks ago as well

I had a mates garage like that, he sold tyres and self tappers :-)

I've had 7 punctures and only cost me 5 quid for the kit instead of 10 quid a pop at tire centre and the hassle and time spent

Nor me since I retired..

In fact I think I can say I've done enough of it to last a lifetime :-) but fun while I was at it ..

i use the strings all the time not had one fail yet

Then you haven't been using them for anything other than a fairly round hole in the right part of the tread, for which they're brilliant.

When they fail is from being put into slits, shoulder or sidewall areas.

I've used strings loads of time too, my brother lives in Oz and they are very common out there, he's seen tyres fixed where they have jammed several in a big hole and it got then people home from some places miles from anywhere.

I have had to shove 2 in a hole before now too, no I don't think I would like to use one in the side wall, well as a get out of jail card maybe but I would not like that as a permenant fixture

I once did a puncture repair with a nylon screw. I removed the nail from the tyre and screwed a M3 screw into the hole with some silicone sealer. I then cut the head off the screw. if worked fine for the 4 years that I had the tyre after that

This no spare to save weight,space and emmissions is crazy, it's just misery wating to happen. With the way many roads are these days when a tyres goes many time some goo isn't going to fix it

Wife regularly gets the tyres knocked off the rims or split sidewalls etc of the Zafira due to poxy pot holes on the lanes near us. Plus 45 profile tyres! I bought a spare wheel, cage and security kit for it as there's no point in a can of gloop when the side wall has split!

I've never used the gloop in a tire but I used it in a rugby ball, stayed up for well over a year!

Our workshops won't repair a puncture if the gloop has been used. Not sure why, will ask today when I'm up. The ranger is waiting to be recovered again

another get you home is to inflate the tyre with some mains water, easily get it to 20/ 30psi with mains pressure coz it just compresses the air in the tyre you need to jack it up though to get max air in to start with also water is thicker than air so doesnt leak as fast, then as you drive the centrifical force of the water keeps the tyre expanded got home with trailer puncture like that at 30 mph seemed the good speed coz when i stopped the pressure had gone but at 30 the water spun the tread out.
tyre was fixable after btw.
I have a customer with a jag who lives part time in spain and was so fed up of broken /cracked wheels, I advised him to swap to 55 profile and go down a rim size or two, he bought some new rims and cannot believe how much nicer the ride is !! the car handles better and is SOOOO much more comfortable he says it now feels like a jag not a jag-ged.
BMW are the same suffering cracked wheels. It makes me laugh seeing 4x4 with rubber bands on, in the belief it looks good, look s h one t to me but heyho

some is water soluble like the holts one and they recon you just wash it out.

Mrs Robo bought a Meriva a few months ago, that had the gloop kit, but it still had the spare wheel well in the boot and a spare wheel was an optional extra so I found one on fleabay for her.

a mate of mine put some of that crap in his tires u could buy to permanently seal tires ' AT 150 mph it made the vehicle shudder as it unbalanced the wheels on a private road mind

Bet He had that stuff in in case he got shot at by traffic cops trying to shoot out his tyres to stop him
