Tyre Machines worth the hassle ?

Ive got quite a few tyres to take off and put back on , is it worth buying a cheap one ? how easy to repair they often come up cheap

Tyre fitting machine spares and repairs been sat for a wile turn table is intermittent in going locking button cracked and has cable tie as per pics get used once a month to do 10 tyres as new...

Depends on how many you have to do. They aren't hard to fix, although spare parts can be an issue.

Personally, having seen tyres go bang at my mate's place, the only tyre "machine" I would be interested in owning would be an inflation cage. The mounting/dismounting machines are a PITA to use; I certainly never got on with them. Balancers are easy enough though.

And once you've done with it, then what? Every time you trip over it you'll find a new swear word Unless you have an ongoing use for it I would be finding a local tyre place to do them.

EDIT: Just to add, I am OCD over tyres, as noted in my Spain thread. Just got 5 new Dunlops fitted to my old banger along with 4 wheel alignment. having blow outs on motorways isn't fun and I really don't like off-brand tyres. Nor do I like places that don't fit them properly, clean the bead, put the heavy spot opposite the valve etc.

No experience with used ones, but I bought a rebadged Chinese one new and it has been brilliant.
I was very on the fence about committing the money and workshop space to something that is an infrequently used one trick pony – but it makes changing tyres so easy and so convenient every time I use it I’m very glad to have it.

What sort of wheels will you be dealing with?
For new alloys something fairly tight with assist arms and protection inserts on the duck head is a good idea as it makes it easier to change tyres without damaging the paint on the rims.
For beat up steel rims I imagine even something that’s well worn would do the job.

i have one similar to that had to fix the pipe on the pneumatics but was free or vey cheap very useful

I just got my car serviced and they ‘checked’ all the tyre pressures but didn’t notice the one that had a puncture repair the day before and was 38 when the rest were 32. Curiously they checked and recorded the tread depth but of course that’s because they can use that to scare you into buying new tyres if it’s low.

Its mostly for the off road stuff I have so steel rims and low pressure , i need to refurbish my chevy trucks wheels too for the one day that i put it back together

if i stop using it can always sell on I guess

If you have the space I would say they are invaluable, I can have a puncture fixed in less time than it takes to drive to our nearest tyre depot where you could also be sat for an hour waiting.

I can always find space for a new machine just cant justify it unless its cheap then its probably another project i dont really need but seem to be collecting

Put tyre changer machine into Gurgle & loads of the old manual style ones come up at £50-60. I used one years ago & they work fine, take a bit longer, but a couple of tyres & it’s paid for itself.

i love mine. its old baggy and its cost me a fair bit this month. (motor and seal kit) wouldn't be without it.

Mrs Robo had similar with a service package she had with a used Peugeot, she had some fancy alloy wheels and tyres fitted, but when it went in for a service she got this

I don't consider Toyo a budget brand, but they were upset they weren't Michelins normally fitted to Peugeots.

And no, Toyo are not a budget brand. Upper mid range at worse.
I've hooned Toyo Proxes around corners at speeds they shouldn't have been hooned at - and while they wore out in no time, they stuck like brown stuff to a blanket. Michelin and Pirelli not so much.

Yokohama are the same. More like track tyres TBH. Sticky and soft as Swiss cheese.

I have been wondering what parts are like to source. Leaks are common but are they just regular seals/O-rings that can be bought or do they use special parts somehow. I've seen a video of someone rebuilding one and they kept buying parts from the manufacturer and it sounded like it was necessary due to plastic parts etc.

The people who repair tyre machines say to avoid the Chinese ones as they don't last and parts aren't available.

Yeah its getting parts is the main worry for me

yeah they make tyre changing a breeze, well they do if your tyre fits, my 4x4 ones don't so i had to do it manually .

got an old corghi one it leaks a bit but not enough to worry about and with the amount of use it gets i doubt it'll be an issue for a long time yet, only thing is most are 3 phase but i fitted a VFD to it.
