Tyre beads

Anyone used them, my boy has just had tyres fitted to his Landy, although the balance machine showed them spot on, they shake at about 65mph. He has bought some tyre beads to put in, & apparently they balance themselves as you drive. I've never heard of this, but I'm told it's quite normal & standard practice on big tyres such as trucks as they are difficult to balance due to the tyre diameter being so much bigger than the wheel dia.

Thoughts anyone?

simple answer is go back and tell them they are out of balance, there are bigger wheels balanced then those

Bet the inner surface of the tyres has a lovely shine, though.

I wouldn't put any crap in my tires. me mate put some stuff in his tires and the car shuddered at 150 mph he had to get it out of them . it was on the track of course

I use 250 grams of bbs in my jimnys tyres 33 13-50 15, Works a treat. Are the tyres you brought for the Landy remoulds ?
They can be a pain to balance.

Tyre place I use hates fitting remoulds, I tell him to shut up and one of his lads can balance them spot on

I have cheap, chunky tyres on the Disco and other than the occasional passenger scream it’s fairly quiet at 70

New I think, they're my sons & don't know what they are. Just got the bag of beads delivered here, as couriers don't like delivering to him 'cos of the dog.

My experience with remoulds. No amount of balancing is going to cure that.

I've read about the beads before.

When I got my balancer I became a "Balancing Bore" because it really bugs me when I see shoddy balancing. Big offroad tyres can be a pain but it just takes more time than most places will allow understandably. I've spent almost an hour on a D3 wheel before because I wasn't happy with amount of weight on it.

I've seen Land Rover Series rims where they have over a 1/4 of the rim had lead on it.

One of my pet hates is when I see weights directly opposite each other

If it balances that bad, brake the beads and rotate the tyre 90degrees. Usually leave motorcycle track tyres Un inflated and rotate the tyre on the balancer until it is very low/no weight needed, helps a lot at times.

Tyre Beads are used a LOT in M/C tyres over in the states & according to reports are very good
