Typical Sunday, ran out of cutting fluid, what to use instead?

Today I did the typical Sunday mistake of running out of something halfway through a job and everywhere around here is closed.

This time it was cutting fluid and I was using a holesaw to cut holes in some steel box section, so my options were...

1. Engine oil 10w40
2. Engine oil 20w50
3. Straight Engine oil 50w
4. Gear oil EP90
5. Moly grease
6. 3 in 1
7. Chainsaw bar oil

In the end I used the chainsaw stuff, it clung to the holesaw better than the others and they didn't smoke too much and still feel sharp.

What would you have used ?

Paraffin or wd40

Chain OIL or ISO 32 ( Already in squirty bottles for the lathe.

Any lubricate I had to hand, bar oil or 10-40w would be 3rd choice, personally my 2nd choice would be 32 hydraulic oil.

I use 20 parts water, one part ep 90 or rape seed cooking oil,and a shot of washing up liquid.

I’ve used gear oil before now, seemed quite tacky and worked ok.

@eLuSiVeMiTe and @zzr1200 I never thought of Hydraulic 32, I've got some as well.

My reason for using chain oil was that it's not too runny and sticks to stuff a bit like Rocol does, it's interesting to note a couple of you suggest paraffin, I've got that here & heating oil & red diesel but discounted them as all too thin.

When we were doing some turning for my apprenticeship I seem to remember using tallow in the end of dead centres??

You could always raid the fridge for some lard!!

Use iso on the donkey saw reguarly. Seems to work well nd clings well.

been advised to use hydraulic no.46 fluid on me lathes and mill when the cutting fluid had finally gone.....
price of cutting oil getting stupid......I paid £80 for my last 5gall drum.......
no rusting of bed ways'.......
ANY IDEA's........
