Typical, when i need it... it doesn't work SIP topmig 150 rubbish!

Wire feed works fine, power settings seem to do nothing at all. I can set it to power setting 6 and still not blow through .8mm steel! i'm using .6mm wire and trying to weld 3mm steel, its hardly penetrating at all. there is a slight difference between power setting 1 and 6 on .8 steel but not even enough to blow through!

The last time i used it was when i did my sills after the wire feed mod and it all worked fine then about 2 weeks ago.

Getting sick of it now.

You know how it's a condition of most guarantees that the warranty becomes void if a non-authorised person tampers with the machine. From the supplier's pont of view, I can understand where they are coming from.

After modifying your SIP, is it fair to blame product failure on SIP or did you bring it upon yourself?

as per most threads on this subject check all lead connections torch and earth and just because there is a good physical connection doesnt mean a good electrical connection.

been there done that and it worked afterwards

Check the power connections especially where the torch connects to the machine. Supposedly they pull loose easily.

Other than that, it may be a blown diode in the rectifier.

Consider removing the main wires from the relay. Short them out to keep things simple and allow the machine to be 'always on', i.e. have a live torch.

Then trace power through the main transformer, i.e. 230v input (primary) and various output voltages (secondary, AC) in the range 15-30v approx, or whatever is on the spec plate, depending in the switch settings. It seems very unlikely that the main transformer has failed so I'd be surprised if you can't pick up AC output voltages. The only components between there and the welding torch are (1) the rectifier and (2) the choke/inductor. Trace through from AC to DC and see if there's a break, failure or loose connection anywhere. Good luck. I enjoy tampering too, but I won't blame the original manufacturer if anything goes wrong or I blow myself up.

Thanks for the help guys. I blew the insides and circuit board out with an airline, fired it up and it seems to be OK (for now)!

probably my fault as i left the side off since i did the wire feed mod

Will put it back together tonight.
