Ah cool - I think they are what we referred to as resolvers (basically absolute position feedback).Yes, have the associated servos, if I recall they have Sick Stegmann sine/cosine encoders on them.
Ours were used on printing presses controlling the tension, they would be used as a brake for 99% of the time, and then as drive motor to spin up the new reel to speed match the paper. Very clever stuff (nowt to do with me I just made them work lol) , never had many issues with the drives but the heat sink fans do fail and cause problems - the drive just shuts down, it’s easy to see in the software as you can see the heat sink temp alarm but with just the keypad you can be left scratching your head!
