Twin wall polycarbonate for condensation free roofings ?

I intend extending my carport. It fills the gap between the house and detached (concrete garage) and is free standing. The idea is make the new part an enclosed area (yes - I know it's then technically not a carport as two sides have to be open ) around 8' square so I can have the feel of working outside without the biting wind we suffer as at 900 feet on side of hill !
The existing carport has fibreglass sheeting but that suffers terrible condensation so I'm wondering if I used twin wall polycarbonate, with edges sealed, for the new aspect only whether it will eliminate condensation - and therefore possibly be able to have some heat ?

It might reduce it slightly but unfortunately it won't get rid of it.

Recently done a similar carport for my parents and used polycarbonate for the roof and halfway down and upvc cladding around bottom ( 3 sides ) with metal gates to the front .
It doesn't really suffer much with condensation so far ( been up 2 months )

you can get multiwall polycarbonate sheeting (I used some 5 layer IIRC for a apex roof window over a living room a while back). No condensation at all. The key thing is to seal the edges properly, and use vent tape on the lowest edge, mine were built into some double glazed units.

I have triple polycarb on the south facing side of my workshop roof for lighting reasons and warmth. Touch wood i've never had condensation problems on the inside in the 2 years it's been up, but do get condensation between the layers from time to time which doesn't bother me too much...... Does get flippin hot in the summer though

I've had a lean to style conservatory with 10mm polycarbonate roof up for nearly 15 years, unheated with kitchen window opening into it, cant say I've ever noticed condensation.

With carport width being 8' intend seeing if I can find some cheap secondhand patio doors to enclose this small area.

Hi, I take it this is for the sides? Have you thought about windbreak mesh? This can be rolled up or to one side when not needed and will stop LA sniffing round.

Probably won't totally eliminate condensation, but should be a substantial improvement. I have used it on three projects, and pleased with all of them.

A. Re-roofed our rear porch/utility room about 10 years ago with twin-wall polycarbonate (10mm), much less condensation than with the original corrugated plastic sheeting (which had become yellow and opaque with age).

B. Then used 16mm twin-wall to make a secondary double-glazing panel for the bathroom window, where it has again greatly reduced condensation.

C. Last year built a greenhouse, with timber frame and twin-wall glazing (10mm stuff, not the 4mm sheets that are sold to replace horticultural glass). Lovely and warm inside, wife now spends half her life out there.

The proprietary glazing bar systems are expensive, but if you can arrange for sheets to meet over a timber rafter, it is simple to fit a batten on top to hold them in place (with rubber sealing strips to allow for expansion).

Easy to slice lengthways with a knife. To cut cross-ways, I find it best to use a steel straight-edge and a Stanley knife. If you saw it cross-ways, the dust all tends to land in the voids, and static electricity makes that dust very hard to remove.

Local builders’ merchants tend to stock only a limited number of sheet sizes. On-line suppliers list sheets up to 6m long x 2.1m wide and will cut to size (costs about 20% more per square metre, but can work out cheaper overall if you are not left with any off-cuts).
