Tried that.
Any button depressing on the remote,activates the red light on it,just nothing happens on the tv,which always used to.
Operating the few side switches achieved nothing.

The TV has died. Classic PSU failure due to capacitors drying out.

It does sound a lot like how my Sony died...
Although I'm not convinced mine didn't get bricked by a overnight software update so I'm reluctant to spend out on a new pump board for it...
If it was the caps on my Sony they they didn't do very well as it was only about 3yrs old.
My previous panasonic did more like 15 years and was still turning on fine!
Although that was a much tougher build as you could hear a mechanical click inside that when you powered it on!
That’s fair enough,it’s at least 14.5 years old and never been repaired before. Thanks to all for the help.
I’ll wait until after Christmas to replace it,we have an 18” one in the dining room during the meanwhile lol.

The main thing that you need to know is that all the brands that you recognise as quality, are now just badges. The two major exceptions are LG and Samsung. Nearly everything else is made by Vestel in Turkey and is virtually the same junk as you could buy with a supermarket badge for half the price.
Sony are a slightly different case, I believe that they are being thrown together in China, but after the rootkit scandal, they are not welcome on my premises even as a gift. Not only that, they use a very buggy Android OS.
All about Sony's contempt for their customers.

My parents have only ever purchased Sony TV’s since the 1970’s Trinitrons. I have followed however the last one I bought in 2016, a then high spec 4K android model, which, despite updates is indeed very buggy, it seems to reboot itself almost daily, a lot of the time it turns on and won’t display the correct input, instead a black screen with only the input label. Also if it is unplugged from the wall, it plays completely dead for five minutes before it will turn on.
