Help required,our tv won’t display,the remote will switch the sky box on and off,but the monitor light on the tv doesn’t change from red to green,we don’t have sky,just receive via the dish,tried battery replacement in the remote,and rubbing the viewer card in the sky box on my sleeve to no avail. Thanks.

We have a separate remote for the tv...
And sometimes use the touchpad on the tv if daughter has lost the remote...

Check the leads between the TV and box is firmly connected?
Does the remote actually transmit infra red pulses? Try looking at the LED window on the front of the remote, using a phone camera or digital camera, whilst the buttons are pressed. What about the HDMI lead or SCART lead for a good connection - Hotponyshoes beat me to it. Also try pressing the buttons on the TV itself. Do you have another video source that could be plugged into the TV e.g. games console, or DVD player? The Sky remotes can be configured to work with a range of different TVs. Is it possible someone has managed to press the keys on the remote in the right order to program the remote to work with a different TV, meaning your TV now ignores the commands sent from the remote?

Don’t understand about looking at the end of the remote,I can see the red light comes on when you press any button,but a phone camera? Pressed the buttons on the side,to no avail.we have a vcr and a wii,that can be plugged in.
Yes it’s highly possible one of us has pressed buttons in the wrong order,I’ve got 3 small boys,plus I don’t even know the correct order!

Just use the TV remote! Sky programmable buttons are something that we always refused to setup for customers because of the issues caused by them.

Cameras can often see IR from remotes. Same as it can be used to trigger a darkening welding hat. Good way to test the remote, but it could be sending the wrong code.
We have a panasonic and without a remote you can not turn it on.. tho the chromecast will turn it on.
Either need to reprogram the remote or buy a new universal remote to program.

My advice is to get a matching remote. Give me the make and model number and I will see what I can do. Relying on a volatile memory remote is always a bad idea as you have found.
Bear in mind that there will also be buttons on the TV that you can use. If they don't work either it suggests that the TV has bitten the dust.

you guys are not paying attention to whats written
the tv is not switching on so wont display anything as it wont change from red standby to green on
even over ridding the screen by manual settings it wont turn from red to green led
either child lock has been turned on or the screen has gone faulty and wont power up

Not on my Panasonic, it needs the remote or hdmi signal to turn on. The main On button for tv just leaves it in standby. Theres no hidden button or way to do it.

Use the on/off button on the tv, usually on the side or the back. If it's not tuned to the HDMI for the Sky box any more it might not come on automatically.

The way I am reading it is that the op does not have a remote for the TV.
He has not said if the TV has a physical power button on it either?
I am presuming the TV is (was) being switched via the sky box via hdmi or scart?
If I remember rightly there was an option on either my TV or sky box to turn the remote switching on/off so it's possible somebody has done that by mistake?
Or it is indeed possible it's just a problem with the TV itself. My last one (a fairly new sony) did the same thing. Just would not come out of standby one day.
No physical power button on that but I knew the remote was working OK as the red light blinked for each button press but noting would get it to power back up.

unplug the telly from the mains for a minute, plug it back in and try again

That's what I do when the clever telly plays dead. So far it's cured it every time.
