i was welding 2mm aluminium but was mainly tacking up a job. Was probably using about 100amps. I have to fully weld the job this Sat so ill see what happens. I did weld steel straight after last time and didnt need to regrind either.
Miller update - welded the aluminium tank up on saturday using a miller dynsty. I tried pulse and this was neat but the surface of the weld looked like it had been peppered with sand so i turned it off. Maybe the pulse settings werent correct but it was fine with it off. This is the first squarewave welder i have used and can honestly say its doesnt seem any different to any sinewave machines i have used in the past which number about 10 i guess. The welds i did with the eutectic i borrowed look neater than the miller but i was using 2.4 rods and the guy with the miller only had 1.6 so i would look different as i was having to fire them in too fast. the ceriated tungsten was sharpened to a point and when welding at 130 it did produce a tiny tiny ball end about .5mm in diameter. Nothing like a white tip. In summary i wouldnt pay £8000 for a miller dynasty. If i had 3 phase id buy an old miller 300 syncrowave for a grand which would last forever.
