Tungsten sharpener - £1,500???

Hi all,
Our local dealer quoted me £1,500 for an ESAB tungsten sharpener. How much do you think I should be paying for a decent one?

I got the £800 GBC TEG1 in the end, since it did everything we wanted. Overpriced? Definitely. But it wasn't my money.
It's a great bit of kit if you forget about the price, it works very easily, very precisely and the lads love it for grinding short tungstens for pipe welding. Probably about 2000% mark-up on what it cost to make, though.

My homemade contraption still does me fine in my own workshop, and it cost £20!

As I said they ain't cheap even second hand they ain't cheap and unless your doing it professionally
Or you got one of those dremel ones which I sadly missed out on your better off with a dedicated bench grinder

Save your money. If you cant twist a tungsten between your fingers, put it in a drill. Simple. Fits all sizes of Tungsten, sharpens to any angle.

You got the same sharpener as me then .

I usually sharpen both ends as I'm crap at keeping the point in a serviceable condition .

Mine is a ancient 9 inch Black & Decker industrial garage work beast from the 1960's (?) . I've put an inch wide green stone on one side of the grinder and an inch wide coarse alu oxide on the other. The green is mainly used for sharpening my lathe cutting steels but also gets used for sharpening TIG tungstens in the battery drill and for me hand sharpening all my twist drills
