Going to try ally welding for the first time. Does the end of a fresh tungsten need to be shaped to a rounded end first, or do I just start on some scrap until it rounds itself?
If you're using an older transformer machine then you should probably round it first. If you're on an inverter you can get away with a point as it'll quickly round itself off when you get going. At least, that's the approach I take!
They generally form up to a ball of their own accord, as long as your doing it right.
Sometime i might give it a helping hand, by just rchamfering off the end of a new tungsten slightly.
