Tube Notcher Help

Hi All

My son has been on at me to make him a go-kart so i have started to look into it. I want to make a frame out of 1.5" stainless tube so i will want to notch some angles. I have never notched tube before so any hits would be good, i have looked around and was wondering if anyone on here had made there own notcher?

As Brightspark there's several good threads on the subject that'll come up with a search for 'coping' 'fishmouthing' and/or 'tube notcher'. A good one here that includes several different methods including a vid by Blackjack, some pics and links of the chopsaw/bandsaw method and links/explanations of the 'pipe wrap' method. Sam has posted pics/info on his method using a lathe.

Stainless is going to be harder on the tools than mild steel, obviously the tools to hand will be the biggest influence on the chosen method but i'd be thinking about coolant and a bandsaw or cold cut drop saw in the absence of proffesional tube coping kit (that use milling cutters/abrasive belts) personally

The True Manly way is to do it with an angle grinder.
When we were making loads of shonky bikes I had a sodding band saw sat in the corner and did not even think of using that.

There are even tables for working it out.
And printable bloody templates.
What kind of sissies are you lot.
