Trying to disassemble a gas stove with a glass panel

The chances of success are minimal. Due to corrosion, the sockets under the flame arrester with internal gas supply heads were jammed. They should be removed by hand, but they are not. The seals have crumbled, there are small gaps, but wedging does not produce results. I soak the parts with 40wd and DMSO - the result is zero. There is very little hope that the glass will not burst. If all 4 burners were gas, converting the stove to a stainless steel plate would make sense.

Is it worth replacing, after you've gone to all that time, trouble and expense of repairing that one, replacement works out cheaper and easier.

Buying new is not always an answer I'm happy with.

Of course, glass, with small rosettes for a flame divider. The upper part fits into the inner part (through a hole in the glass), not a press fit, but apparently tight. The trapped grease and dirt dried and glued the halves of the parts together. I found a video of one master, he strongly did not recommend Bosch gas stoves, 4 points of savings on important details (screws turn sour in aluminum and the screw heads come off, a trifle, but TIG can handle it). I'll try to knock the pieces out of each other without breaking the glass, but...

I've messed about with hobs like this before.
As others have said it's not usually worth the time.
Even if it was an expensive high-end unit you can buy a used, fully working one for very little.

I agree, buying new is not a happy answer to everything but if you buy a used one from some rich housewife who is refreshing the kitchen you will save time, not spend much and still save one hob from landfill.

If you do want to fix it, hob glass is usually pretty tough. Don't use any sharp-edged or pointed tools. Use stuff like old credit cards and plastic window wedges and drive them in with a nylon hammer.

You have 2 problems,
solid fat, this runs into the smallest gaps as a liquid then sets hard as a glue. Alkaline fluid will break that down. Alloy wheel cleaner.
Then aluminium corrosion that expandes and causes a mechanical lock.
Caustic solution for that.
Flush and dry between the 2 treatments.

The caustic will probably turn the aluminium nasty dark grey. Either mechanical clean or acid for that.

The glass broke, no matter how hard I tried. So, perhaps there will be a new project. I don't need an electric heater, just gas. If laser cutting costs a reasonable price, I will order a stainless steel part. I believe silicone +300 C will cope with the temperature when heating a gas stove. (as glue for moldings and rosettes)

i wouldnt have a glass top hob in the first place

whilst i prefer the metal type myself and stainless steel hob is alot better and easier to clean

the one thing here in the uk they are a throw away item and replace and electric is worse on that score

with gas parts become an issue to get them again

that silicone will be fine with the gas top with the heat as it wont get that high on the surface to affect it

I'm building a new kitchen in a rented apartment. The principle is minimal costs for new things. There is already an almost complete set of white equipment, taken for free + a total inspection and cleaning has been done. Washing machine, dishwasher, separate upright freezer and oven. No gas stove. Options for kitchen furniture are not adding up yet. But a luxurious bed from Austria is already rocking me. All that remains is to select wardrobe cabinets and a dining table.
I'm leveling up my skill.


After three months of searching, I did not come across a stainless gas stove. Or they ask for half the price of the store, which is hundreds and hundreds of euros. Plus, I need to convert the stove to gas from a cylinder and replace the jets.

They are common in the uk
Again, very cheap used.

It's also common for them to be supplied with jets for bottled gas when new but very rare for the owner to remember what happened to them if you buy a used one.
Cheap and easy to find new ones though.

The current realities of the European Union, I believe, will nullify any good price.

Injectors are not a problem. It is in this model of stove and gas injectors that it is very difficult to replace without removing the burner sockets.

I'm on vacation from Monday, let's postpone it until the 20th.

Maybe a good offer will come along.

An oven door will most likely be toughened (tempered) glass - zero chance of cutting it.

The cooker top (and stove fronts) are a transparent glass ceramic (not glass). It will cut with a wheel, but it's a lot tougher than glass and less inclined to follow the score mark.
