Trying to buy a cordless angle grinder...

Dear lord, how hard can it be? I don't have anything cordless at the moment so I just want to buy a grinder, with a battery and a charger. Easy, right? Bahahahaha. Either I'm going loopy or it's impossible. Nobody seems to advertise this, and comparing prices is virtually impossible as the ads are generally bare machines and they don't sell the battery, or they offer a machine with two batteries...but no charger...or a charger with two batteries..but no machine. Aaaaaargh!
Has anybody else succesfully navigated this and actually ended up with a grinder and a battery and a charger? Without spending £400?

I had a cheapish cordless angle grinder many years ago. It was OK but even with two batteries was of limited use. I'd like another but learnt my lesson with the first that it's a case of "getting what you pay for" so know that (a) buy decent make (b) decent capacity batteries (c) expect to pay quite a bit - say £300 + at least for bare unit, charger and two batteries.

If you do buy one think about what tools you are likely to buy in the future, or if you already have some li ion tools what you have already.

It makes sense to have 1 kit of the same make so you can use the same batteries in drills etc

I have a Dewalt 18v one, had it many years

Came in a big kit of stuff so doesn't help you in the slightest but they are very useful, I use it with a slitting disc mostly for cordless semi skilful chopping

I'd be using it mainly with a flap disc for tidying up, sometimes with a cutting disc and occasionally with a grinding disc (my welds aren't generally that bad!). One thing I would use it for regularly is chopping up 6 metre lengths at my local steel yard so I can fit them in the car. My local yard has started charging silly prices for cutting and there's only so much I can do with a hacksaw I can't see myself needing any other cordless tools really, and with the amount of use it would get, a body, a battery and a charger would do me. I could always add another battery later if it turned out I needed it. I was leaning towards makita, as not madly expensive but reasonable quality so it's a question of finding the best deal on the three items required, unless anyone has any better ideas?

I used to trim horses hooves with an angle grinder using an inverter off my vans battery ! An eBay inverter with a £9.99 angle grinder is the way to go for cutting up steel at the steel yard.

take a small bottle set? or go some other place?

when I get deliveries I cant put full lengths in but only by a little, so I just line everything up and give them the torch. I should do the same at their yard till they told me I couldn't (at which stage I should go elsewhere) or dropped their price to cut.
some yards don't charge for rough cuts for transport only proper cut to size which IMO is fair

£170 for a decent make, you can always add more batteries cheaply enough if you need more.

The Bosch one is 10k rpm, not bad for the odd job as you say Gordon but still not up to corded power. Handy for when you just need a quick cut/sand rather than running the extension leads out though.

I would use a cheap genny for about £50, with a normal corded grinder,

as said the cordless ones are poor.

I wouldn't say they are poor, the Bosch one I have is actually pretty decent. They do have their limitations but they are very convenient.

If you don't mind carting around a genny, petrol etc then I guess that would be a cheaper solution but I got mine for the convenience factor. once you have a few batteries then the bare tools are not that expensive. (In comparison to buying them as a set with batteries/charger etc)
