Its been a while since I've been on this forum but thats because the trusty VARMIG 120 has been working fine since my last visit some years ago, when you helped me diagnose the problem.
Except last week, after not using it for a while, it decided to trip out the circuit breaker as soon as I threw the power at the socket (and before I'd thrown the on/off switch).
After some investigation I tracked it down to these resistor type things which strangely were connected between live, neutral and earth (pics attached). As soon as they were disconnected it works fine (no tripping).
My questions are what do they do? (are they some sort of over load protection) and can I use it without them safely?
