I have a Miller DVI that welds just fine once an arc is established. The problem I am having is with the intial start. I get a semi violent pop and sometimes the wire pushes against the metal before the arc starts. It has been back to the factory for repair and they replaced the 40 amp 3 pole contactor with a 60 amp contactor which they said would provide a better start, it didn't solve the problem. I am wondering if I have a capacitor that is weak.
I had no problems with this welder for 2 years and then all of a sudden it started to give me problems at the initial start. It has a new liner, a new contact tip, and a new spool of wire, and I use C25 gas. I have checked all the internal and external electrical connections on the machine.
Anybody have any thoughts?
