Triumph roundhead base

Hi folks, ive just got an absolute bargain on ebay. Longbed roundhead Colchester Triumph. I need to make a skid tray for skates to move it this week via winch onto ifor Lm146 flatbed trailer and 8ft ramps.

Question; Can anybody who owns one nip out and get measurements for the table base please?

I have the manual lay out diagram but need exact sizes of the tailstock end.
I want to make something proper job as the finished article can be used to make future machine moves.

When installed in its permanent location, the machine sits on six 'hard points'. They are labelled FF and L in the diagram.

Build the skid to suit them as other places on the underside may just be soft underbelly and unsuited to take the machine's weight.

Job done, thanks guys, that is a great point about the hard points.

Im thinking a wide beam headstock end to carry the skates probably 5ft 6” to prevent any too heavy mishaps then steerage with a single point under the tail stock. The cross beam will have a good sizes lip to pick up those FF pionts. Thats straight forward but accounting for the offset tailstock maybe a bit more complicated.

If you are winching, do you need skates? A simple skid might work just as well and be lower.

I might use 3 pieces of 6" x 2" on the flat across the width bolted to 2 pieces of the same timber along the length. The fixings on the lathe should stop it racking, but you could be doubly sure by using builder's band on two diagonals. Put a 45 degree chamfer on the leading edge of the skid.

There is a long winding way across ok ish concrete, probably about 20 yards before we get to the trailer. The unit is 150years old well tucked away.

Reasoning is when i build my new garage these tools will help bring my stuff out of storage with out the worry.

I also have a leblonde regal 15 and that is severely top heavy on a very narrow cabinet

I actually only bought a winch last week before this came up, so all feels right. I been copying an ifor headboard today so winch bracket tmrw.

I always find it difficult to visualise these things. Some good machine moving posts on practical machinist, went through a load last night.

Skates take a bit of skill in driving and managing.

If you have a skid on top of a skate and a lathe on top of the skid, what happens if a skate makes a bid for freedom?

It could be helpful to practice on a super smooth floor, with the machine (initially maybe even a pallet of sand) directly on the skates. Then you get a feel of how it behaves, which will be good education for higher (in height) loads, less stable loads and less perfect surfaces.
