Check the rear panels, if it's smoking they'll be covered in a fine, oily coating. By Dad had an A40 Farina, exactly like this

and the oil light used to come on at idle - STP sorted it for a while but the back of the car was minging.

Maybe he had it chipped?

The front is not that good either.

Cool at the time, though. The sills started to bubble, by the time he'd done one side patched and painted and moved over to finish the other side, side 1 was getting rough already.....
