Triton superjaws

done a search on this bit of kit but no results-cannot believe no-one on here has them?.
Anyway, I have had mine for yonks and its a brill bit of kit for metalwork/woodwork/logcutting.
I made up a triangular wheeled base for mine which I use when tig welding some projects.
I also made up a small welding table which is gripped in the jaws.
Anyway for info on them see this:

note that this is the original design, the later versions are improved and easier to mount up and fold up etc.

I've had one for ages too. It's invaluable in some circumstances but your idea of holding a small welding table in it is a really good idea. Any chance of some pictures of this and of your wheeled base?

I'll have a go, I'm finding it tricky to upload photos but I'll see what I can do.

Had one for ages too. Just have to watch your fingers when unfolding and refolding!!

Puts my Workmate to shame. Looks to be much more versatile.

?Have they now removed the 'T' stays from the bottom of the legs?
?Not very practical on uneven ground?

Yes I think they have gone and they now have a locking catch on the jaws-the original version could get your fingers, and whack your shin if you slapped the release without having your foot on the pedal, the legs were not locked when folded up either but the new version has all that sorted out.
My set is one of the originals -I set up a 3metre length of ms 100x50x3mm (or summat like that I'm lost on this metric stuff) held by the first 100mm on rough ground, plus I've chainsawed logs and 200mm oak posts in it.
I forgot to say I have a pair of these as well

plastic tops melt of course but you can easily adapt a metal top if needed for metalwork-you could of course knock up something similar but for the price at the time I bought em I did not have the time and would have paid more in materials. They can complement the superjaws for some jobs.

I found one of the originals on gumtree for £40 not too far away so I fetched it yesterday, it took a chunk out of my thumb folding it up first time but now I know it's liking for human flesh I will be ready for it next time It also came with a set of log holding jaws which might come in useful but the engineering jaws would have been a bonus.

£40 and a lb gram of flesh well worth what you paid.

yep thats one of its tricks to get pommie barstaff-the other on that model is forgetting to put your foot on the jaw closing pedal when you hit the jaw release-the closing pedal whacks your shin causing you to cry-gosh that smarts- bally antipodean rascal.

They're brilliant things, those Triton items. Mrs Joe even seems to think I've got a Triton "habit"!

My addiction started with a simple tripod ("Multi-stand"), but it didn't end there.

One of the superjaws (from e-bay) has a table type top to work on, but also came with the log jaws, too. Have since got a set of the engineering/vise jaws, to use in it.

Also have the "XXL" version of the superjaws, too - it has bigger feet so as not to sink in soft ground, and the clamping system seems easier to use. One of those things that dispenses with the annoying extra "work-arounds" that crop up every day.

Oddly enough, I picked up a workcentre on Christmas Eve, (E-bay again!), which has a planer attachment with it. Both are incomplete, though - so I'll be using those exploded diagrams on the Triton site to identify the missing parts. It'll be a"Krypton Factor" type of exercise for me, some time in the future!
