Tripping RCD

Hi all,

Long time lurker here! Have just got a Clarke 151TE from Weldequip. Tried to start welding today, but as soon as I turn the welder on (no welding at all) the main house RCD trips instantly....

Any ideas what's going on? Happens on multiple house circuits, even one on a single cooker spur...

First thing I'd do is check the plug is wired correctly.

Have you got a multimeter? There could be a short from neutral or live to the chassis. As it's new I'd contact Weldequip, he'll help you out.

First thing I'd do is check the plug is wired correctly.

I checked the plug 3 times, before I realised I had wired earth to neutral - what an IDIOT!! Thanks for the help... off to eat humble pie...

At least it's cheap to fix! A friend of mine wired some lights to a consumer unit, live to the unprotected side of the box and neutral to the protected side. Everytime he switched the lights on the RCD tripped.
