Worse than the noise (incidentally easy to control exposure) is the hand transmitted vibration. It seriously damages people in quite a short space of time, can be found in almost every hand held machine with an engine or motor. There are folk that sell anti vibration gloves, they do not afford any control against exposure

the lousiest tool ive ever used for vibration and is a killer after 10 minutes is a multitool with a carbide blade cutting out grout on floor tiles. you cant feel your hand after using it and ear defenders MUST be used
