tree stump anvil base

Hi guys I recently acquired a tree stump to put my anvil on and it's still a bit mouldy just wondered do I need to just let it dry out or can I spray it coat it or zap it with anything to sort it out, thanks

just put it somewhere dry and where the draught can get to it for a month then staple the anvill to it and use

I'd imagine household bleach would clean it off and then just wash it off with water.

Wrap an iron band or two around it before it dries - will help prevent it splitting.

It'll shrink when it dries though - the band will be loose.

Yep, then tighten it up.

thanks for the replies guys, afraid i lost track of this thread will look into banding for sure might as well do what i can.
