Transtig 180 failure

A collegue who is an extermely well experienced welder has a failed TT180. The fault is poor/no performance of hi frequency. The same fault occured some years ago & he was advised to change the 0,002Mf 10 000 mwv capacitor whiched fixed the problem. I can only check this capacitor with a 1000v tester but at that voltage the capacitor holds a charge. can you advise where we may obtain this capacitor please( I have physical dimensions but space not important) & the likely cost. can you suggest any other areas to be tested? The only other noticeable aspect when trying to use the welder with hi-frequency on is a very erratic discharge across the spark gap.
We are aware that these welders came from Australia & spares are difficult to come by.

Spark gap has a huge influence, check makers recommended and 40 thou at a guess.

On my old beast the gaps are 0.010.

it uses the same caps. I know you can get them from a Miller dealer; they are used in older Syncrowave TIGs.

On mine, I used 8, 500pf/20kv caps in parallel (mine has two 0.002uf caps in parallel.) These were potted in epoxy. Work well. I got the caps of ebay from China.

The gaps make a big difference. Too big and it will be very hard on the caps. Mine had oozed oil all over from overheating.

Try cleaning the points and readjust to .15mm
The HV transformer should read about 6K resistance on the output side, from memory. Power off of course. Lets know.
