roof rack on Navara is 50Kilos i believe but is odd fitting if i remember right pins fit into the side of the bars so all weight is on the pins not the bars

I would balance the pole evenly on the roof rack and lash the front and back to stop it bouncing. That's not vastly heavy.

the "stick the whole thing on the roof rack" approach feels like it has the potential to end in some sort of motorised jousting incident ending up with the roof rack and mast impaled in something or on the side of the road, with 16 ragged holes in the cab roof to plate over. yes I could hire a trailer but as do that and still having to spend a day collecting it Id sooner pay a courier to do all the fannying around . Ironiocally I saw two empty scaffolders wagons from round that way As I got on the motorway to work this morning, would have been an ideal shout for their beer money for the weekend

Forget the roof rack idea, was in the fencing suppliers a while back and a lad put a few sticks of timber on his (bare in mind this stuff is like balsa wood) , it broke and ended up on his roof. I think they are mainly for decoration and at best a pair of ski`s.

What did he reckon to your taking pics of his...errr...'miscalculation' to post on the interweb?
I was helping him John and he didn’t really care about the snaps, we cut a few cross bearers and strapped them down to the runners then loaded the wood onto these. He was less than chuffed because he had only borrowed the truck .

I wish I'd got a pic of someone in the amateur radio club whose old Lada Niva was just a tool/workhorse to him. He wanted to move an antenna pole so him and a mate just swung on it until it creased the roof in a "V" shape, then a couple of ratchet straps through the open windows secured it. A number of comments were made about the roof damage, he just said "it'll knock out with a hammer when I get home"

Stick it on the roof, with a couple of x type crutches in the back, so ineffect youd be supporting it in 4 places.Just use a couple of bits of wood, bolt through, so it is like scissors. Then lash the support to the mast keeping it in place.
Yachts carry their masts like that on trailers.

Well Shiply havent quoted, presumably to length. Trailer hire is comin in at £40, for another £9 I could have a mercedes lwb van and do it posh, but £50 is either another antenna or radio, so if it is to be, it is up to me. Going tomorrow, as the weather forecast for the M62 over weekend is awful, snow and sleet. I’ll report back

200 mile round trip done and safely home. Didnt budge an inch and Tonka behaved impeccably
Perhaps the father is too protective of his daughter and they have all decided she's not worth the trouble...
