Transmig 165

Does anyone have a fairly new Transmig 165? I just bought one and am a bit iffy about the main power switch when switched on. The manual says if it's NOT illuminated but you're still able to weld then there's a problem and to have the switch replaced. The guys at the distributors say the switch should only light up when the machine has exceeded its duty cycle! The manual also describes the power switch as 'Power switch with built-in indicator light'. Anyone have any idea which is true?

Can you see the wires going into the switch?

Working on an intelligent guess and assuming it's a 2 pole switch, if there are 4 wires then the switch will illuminate when power is on. It will need an extra wire from the cut-out circuit to illuminate the switch under overload conditions.

In the former case, (4 wires) if you can weld with the switch unilluminated but in the "on" position there will be a fault with the indicator. If you can weld with the switch in the "off" position then the switch is shorted.

Thanks for your reply - as the machine is only a few days old I didn't want to open it up before I had some firm idea that there might be a problem. If I don't get some more info from the forum I'll open it up and post an image of the switch connections.

My Clarke is the same, it only illuminates when it overheats/cuts out.
I expected it to light up when switched on, but after asking on here, it's doing what it's meant to do...
