Oh yeah - worn injectors (lumpy Idle, stalling - then beware - you could be looking at a 1k bill).
ECU & immobiliser issues as well.

All that said - there are lots of the things still running.

(I just replaced the front wheel bearing on a mates RWD 57-plate Transit - that's a ballache too, as the disc is behind the hub, & the bearing carrier is behind that, and it's all pressed-together F-in tight, with the torx bolts for the bearing carrier needing to be accessed through small holes in the hub/wheel carrier & the disc. Rubbish arrangement.).

I have an LDV Convoy (Yr 2000) which has the 2.5di "Banana" Lump

I had a turbo di for a while, it was so much better than the normally aspirated version it was shocking, totally different van to drive

keep on the look out, you won't regret the upgrade

plenty of people just swap the manifolds add the turbo and turn the fuel up a bit on the pump - the one I had came like that, they run just fine like that :-)

I've heard the turbo di is the one to have - the reliability & strength of the Narna, with the prod more like a Duraturd.

Just had to change a motor in a renault traffic. What a see you next tuesday of a job that was.
The french make some lovely wine and some fantastic cheeses. But appart from a few excelent cars, it all garbage.

I just bought a transit 2.4 to camperise. The traffic and variants was not on the list of candidate vans.

I've heard the turbo di is the one to have - the reliability & strength of the Narna, with the prod more like a Duraturd.

you can fit any turbo on a nana,as long as you get the right injectors and pump to suit,but TBH you're not getting that much more bang for your buck

What to look for in a 57 plate Transit
Friend wants to look at a transit camper she has seen one on FB in Swindon for £4k, I would think it was a dog but she is set on it, whatever I say she will go look not getting involved as it would end in tears.

Not all of them are dead and buried,tell her to do an MOT history check,see what nasty things have come up,it might have been well looked after for all you know,then again it might be a pig,its horses for courses for any van make and model
Just been asked today to price up work on a 08 LWB transit minibus,loads to do,thing is when done and converted,they hold their money

I wish I'd driven a turbo di earlier, I'd have made sure they were all turbos after that!

Master Mk2 I said. Mk 3 is carp. Not Trafic, its too small. having said that, if the engine failed because of timing chain failure, that was down to poor maintenance. Gearboxes are not good though.

Wouldn't have a Transit as a gift, especially not one with the 2.2/2.4 engine. OK for putting in the garden to use as a shed though.

Interesting conversations I have had with a company near me does horsebox conversions, and I have been there several times, and they say the Master 2 is the only van that that you can cut the rear body off and it is fine. Try that with a Transit and it will fold in half. Due to this, and the rust issues, they will not touch them.

there's probably a few.... but off the top of me head I don't know of any galvanised cars/vans

if I could find galvanised transit/sprinter sized vans I'd buy them in a heartbeat

This was 8 grands worth of 2010 transit still needed a bit of welding and a new turbo on the 2.4ltr, handles well drives nice would I buy another, yes but this one’s 4x4 and came with recovery dolly in it hence why price was so high. Think any van has its problems Ex fleet vans that have been maintained regardless like ex post office, AA, RAC, electricity board are usually the best vans on the market. Would have preferred a low roof iveco but they are very hard to find let alone a 4x4 one.

Would avoid a van that’s already been converted like the plague usually it’s a crap old rust buck it badly repaired and then a crap job done of the insides in my experience. Best off with an empty shell and do it yourself.

Mine has broke down twice in 4 days, nobody else wants to touch it, complete electric failure no dash lights apart from the immobilise, had to get it recovered twice.
Its locked me out 3 times as well.
Going to have to get a loan and buy a decent van probably a lwb sprinter.
Heading to shop on foot to get a load of thatchers haze

have you checked both batteries are good?

you can have one duff battery, it'll start and drive ok and then have all kinds of freaky electrical problems

I forgot to mention although transits have their rust problems and engine issues there are so many of them parts are plentiful and cheap. Also readily available from most auto factors went in to my local one and although they are not big or in anyway ford focused had some really obscure bits for mrk 7 transits sitting on the shelf that I thought I’d have to wait ages for, so despite there problems they do have their upsides as well. Vast amount of problems are very well documented and most garages are well acquainted with them.

Like desmi pumps we use to have on the container ships. Horrible unreliable complicated things but you could get spares for them In absolutely any port in the world as they were so common.

FWD or RWD ?

RWD engines £1500 for a half decent but no guarantee one around here (for a mk7 transit)

I've got one transit left, once that's gone I'm not getting anymore


swapping to sprinters.... they have their problems but at least I'm not swapping engines all the time
