I’m looking at buying a Transit SWB Custom to replace a moon mileage Vauxhall Vivaro at work.
Any horror stories about them?
Any horror stories about them?
I think all european transits are made in Turkey these days.some turkish made units had faulty oil pumps which cause catastrophic engine failures.
Same as what I've heard on the grapevine, total engine failures.what age ?, yes they all have some issues, security or lack of it main one, wiring harness to exhaust is crap and causes van not to go into regen and then you end up with dpf warning lights, simple enough fix and easy to spot, some turkish made units had faulty oil pumps which cause catastrophic engine failures.
not heard that one before but what is common is spinning the lock barrel in the drivers door which unlocks all the doors including the load bay. fords responce has been to disable the central locking on the barrel so the key or barrel being spun only opens the drivers door and the load bay remains secure.so i heard, there is some wiring that runs beside the rear doors, a quick run down with a sharp bladed object down the gap, cuts the wires and the doors unlock.
plenty people buy them so they cant be that bad.....unless they suffer from terminal rust like the earlier ones.
It was a problem on introduction of the mk6 transit in 2000.as for cutting wires i cant see how that would unlock the doors as theres no signal to tell them to open so will remain locked permanently if cut.
totally agreeI've been running a LWB DCIV version for around 5 months now. It was brand new with about 10 miles on the clock. It's the 170 bhp Euro 6
Not had any issues with it (touch wood), ran it in nicely ( some say you should- some say no need - i say no harm in treating her gently for the first 2k miles )
ive had one bad dealer that damaged the paintwork on my van in several places trying to fix something else which resulted in it having to have a door shut respray to fix the damage, on the other hand another dealer ive used is superb and will continue to use from now on.Heard a few horror stories about crap dealers, but how much of that is down to the owner being awkward I don't know.
My ex rac Mk7 was the biggest money pit I've ever owned. They are treated no different to any other van.Buy ex RAC and you will have no problems....... my one is sound as a pound
Wow 170bhp in a tranny she must be a right flyer!I've been running a LWB DCIV version for around 5 months now. It was brand new with about 10 miles on the clock. It's the 170 bhp Euro 6

Filled the ad blue within 20 miles of the light coming on. Heard a few horror stories about crap dealers, but how much of that is down to the owner being awkward I don't know.
(Saw a story of one guy refusing to take a courtesy van and kicking up a fuss to whoever listened as the floor was muddy- it's a van for God's sake)
With regards to security , mine already had the update that disconnects the rear door from operating off the front door key. Though being a dual cab the side doors don't access the rear cargo area anyway.
Jury's out as to whether to change to the hykee type door lock. On one hand it stops the oiks from breaking in, on the other it says you probably have something worth stealing .
The mess they make to circumnavigate the locks means a big repair bill even before they nick the contents.
I also have a 2013 T5 and prefer driving the custom which says a lot
