Pagid is mid-range at best. I wouldn't buy it for the fact it's a brand from the shysters that are ECP.

Genuine Ford can be cheaper if you get it at trade.
My last custom I could get front pads and discs cheaper from Ford, than I could for decent aftermarket.

For my own cars - I always go OE for brakes - yeah I get trade and I can beg the parts person I ringing daily for customers car parts for the "best price for my own car".

For economy - PPF brake parts is my choice for my customers - never had a problem with anything PPF - only one MotorFactor in the town - is in the buying group that stocks them thou.

ECP have become ridiculously expensive now, £106 they wanted for a star line coil pack for my mother in laws Fiat the other day, got a Cambiare (I think OE) one from Napa for £57, £106 for an unbranded Lambda sensor, got Lucas one online for £35
They wanted £24 for a Mann oil filter which is OE on BMW, only £3 cheaper than one from the BMW main dealer, a couple of years ago ECP were £16 ish
Can’t imagine why anyone is going there now, for anyone in the trade their discount must be massive to make it work.

Brad, I generally get Brembo disks and pads for my cars, they’re not much more expensive than the cheap crap and I’ve never had any issues with them.

I've got no idea what ECP's current plan is.
They lost what is probably the biggest UK fleet customer a couple months ago, partly in due to some noticeable price gouging, but mostly because they were generally more expensive than the other suppliers.

From a trade perspective, they wouldn't do cash deliveries or take card payment over the phone, so I suspect very few mechanics use them for parts.

Hopefully you have better luck than I did with brembo if you get them. Fitted brembo front discs to my merc bought at fairly high cost from ECP and they warped within a year. Meanwhile "Ferrodo premium" which were cheap from Autodoc (on a Monday, always order on a Monday as its cheapest) have been going strong on it for a few years now and will probably wear out before they warp. My merc seems hard on discs too, it's a fairly heavy car, I drive it fast and its automatic which means braking then holding your foot on the pedal to some degree.

With regards your delphi discs and pads, i've usually found Delphi parts to be safe and long lasting. If brake squeal is an issue I usually find that coating the back of the pads in several mm of copper grease does the trick and dampens the harmonics causing the squealing.

You have to be a bona fide garage to get a trade account with Parts Plus, and the sales manager is likely to visit you before you get one.
It's essentially Ford's equivalent of VAG's TPS, although locally they won't even sell to the public as they're strictly trade only.

You can get a stick on backing pad that definitely helps, I put some on my work van that squeaked like a pig (Vauxhall "they all do that sir")

I am 99% sure Ford do not make their own brake pads/shoes but buys them from brake pad/shoe manufacturers.

However, I tried to find out who makes them for Ford to no avail. Chat GPT suggests that

"The specific manufacturers can vary by region and product line, and Ford does not publicly disclose all of its supplier relationships. However, it's known that Ford has worked with major brake component suppliers such as Federal-Mogul (now part of Tenneco), Akebono, and Bosch for various braking systems. These companies may be involved in producing Motorcraft brake pads, depending on the vehicle model and market."

Maybe I will try and find shoes from one of those brands.

I wouldn't be surprised if they question your trade status, unless the local branch is desperate for the sales (I'm not sure on the exact setup, but local PartsPlus branches can be run by local dealerships)
I used to work for a national company where that was probably the weekly spend.
Our workshop alone spent over 100k a month in parts, although that was over every supplier, but we were only a mid-sized workshop.

Pickup brake shoes have always been horrendously expensive for some reason.

The thing is, although you might be able to find out who the OE manufacturer is, the chances are the OE spec and aftermarket spec are different.
Things like Merc Sprinters and Iveco Dailys use Brembo brakes, but a set of aftermarket Brembo brake pads are visibly different from an OE set.

I can remember when the public struggled to buy car parts - it was trade only or pay thru the nose.

Trade discount was worth having.... Now it is not... That is why labour rates are so high now - there is no disguising the level of "capitalist greed" a gaggle of car mechanics can express...

TPS give rebates so do PartsPlus - it is the franchised dealership parts dept's that are the problem. They just won't play - you have a job to get them to answer the phone and actually order something - it is like they don't want your money (a bit like ringing your GP surgery)

I have a rule with Motorfactors - if one of my punters quotes me a price for parts cheaper than I can get it for - I just shut the account on the spot and move my spend. Getting the right discount with Motorfactors is easy - they are easy to control. Just keep moving your spend and when the manager rings and asks why you not spending - just tell them they too expensive and the discount lands again.

It's the motortrade - it is not gas boiler fitters or electricians - there is no regulation - anybody can set up shop and fix cars and they just do.

I blame our insurers - they just greedy - they selling motortrade road risks and liabilty insurance to un qualifed people.

I got nothing against DIY repairers - nothing at all - I actually don't mind lending tools out - wiring diagrams - anything really.

But if your little van has an accident and kills someone because the brakes have failed - when they inspect the van - nobody is gonna be asking who fitted the brakes - they are just not. But if I have fitted them - there could be corporate manslaughter charge - and I want paying to cover the risk.

Only thing I might gain on - at least I can claim the warranty on the parts I buy - most places will not entertain non trade claims - which I think is unfair and against consumer protection laws. But if you are claiming to be trade to get discount - you are subject to business to business contract law not consumer law.

I hadn't come across that until recently, I wanted the front pads changing as part of the annual service so supplied a set of Pagid pads, they told me they wouldn't fit customer supplied parts but would fit a set of Pagid pads they supplied. I wouldn't mind if they were consistent as they happily fitted customer supplied front & rear discs & pads to my wife's car 2 months before

Best one was was an old work colleague took their Ford Ka into Ford for an MOT. Workshop phoned him up because it failed and had a video call with him, basically the front brake pads weren't secure and about to fall out. All but one of the retaining pins on one of the calipers had fallen out.

Mechanic asked if he minded sharing where it went. No problem my mate said, you did them and we drove the car home, parked it up and then a month later it went for it's MOT.

I have used delphi on my mitsi s in recent years , no problems with either discs or pads , and seem to have very good bite, and pedal.
