Unless it's leaked out or been spilt it unlikely to have got out any other way, mine was less than half full when I lifted the transformer out to check.Has anyone got a good source for transformer oil preferably new stuff for my Oxford , it's a bit low on oil but I thought it,s perhaps due a change.
Also I know all about the PCP's and all that jaz with handling it
Kin ell 65 quid , I need to find a mate who works on substations.http://www.smithandallan.com/produc...allan-transulate-electrical-insulating-fluid/
Knew I'd seen some somewhere!
and even if it has pcb its no problem its not getting sloshed around and your not handling it with bare hands theres tonnes of the stuff in old transformers still being usedWe have a couple of hundred litres of ex-equipment HV insulating oil that would work fine in a welding set (it can cope with 160kV so 240V won't trouble it ) - Shell Diala BG if memory serves. Could probably find some spare cans to decant it into if anyone gets stuck.
It's taken from x-ray generators when we strip them for repair, they get filled with new oil as a matter of course. We did have an issue in the old days with PCBs but hardly any of the sets we see now are old enough to have that type of oil in them.

well its not cherry so they wont notice if tanks dippedMy friend had a job stripping scrap transformers and had barrels and barrels of old insulating oil....
Used to just fill the tank on my escort van with it! Had completely free motoring for about 18 months!
By the way this is illegal as there's no road duty paid on it so don't do it
the one I had was a home made arc welder rusty as hell dead now
