Transformer based plasma cutter or inverter?

What would be best to get an old transformer plasma cutter or a newer inverter plasma cutter?
Is there any real difference if so what?

I understand the transformer based plasma cutter will be bigger but I have found one for cheap and I have plenty of space so that’s not a worry.

Will use somewhat more power, but i have a few of them, dirt simple (the snap on ya5550) and hold up to the dirt and grime on a shop better IMHO.
I also have a powermax 1650 on the table (Inverter) and it I keep in a clean corner, added air filters to the fans.

I used to be on 12kva single phase supply here with an Oxford transformer plasma, and I was at absolutely nothing with it especially when the compressor kicked in, that bad I used to run the compressor off a generator. I have upgraded to 29kva single phase now, savage plasma no issues now with power, but I’d be going inverter if on single phase, unless you have some other way of running the compressor, that’s a 60 amp plasma, 40 amp prob be fine, and depending how much your cutting, if your only doing a bit you won’t have compressor and plasma going at one time

I've an ESAB transformer based plasma cutter, had it for twenty odd years, used it a fair bit, though not every day, never had any trouble with it.

Doubt an inverter based unit would be as reliable.
