Hi, first time I’ve posted in the paint forum, I’m usually in the Brew Room and I’m hoping someone might have an idea. I’ve got a 54 drawer metal cabinet I want to paint cheaply. I’ve go I got my hands on 2 x 2 1/2 litre tins of the primer they use on electricity pylons. I asked the manufacturer what the thinners would be and they said white spirit. I had been brushing it on and it was a bit thick so I added some white spirit to the tin and gave it a good stir. The white spirit separated out on to the top of the tin so I had to pour it off, trying not to waste too much. The paint is apparently a vinyl base. I tried some cellulose thinners in the paint I had decanted from the white spirit mix and it brushed on beautifully. Now I’m confused as to what thinner I should use as I want to use my spray gun to finish the drawers and outside panels. The paint seems to have some sort of shiny metal flake in it so it looks like it will be a bit aggressive in the gun nozzle. Should I go with the cellulose or do you have any advice as to what I could thin it with. Sorry it’s a long first post.
