Plenty on the London Underground network. They buy a zone 1-4 travel card for £12.70 then surf the network begging. All have a patter they use.

did you see my post recently about the beggar on the train from Bedford to Horsham a really aggressive man intimidating people to give him money

I've been asked by the same guy, on four separate occasions, spread over about two years, for 45 pence. Never more, never less, never even just "Spare Change", always specifically 45 pence.

i was out of area on trip to scotland but it didnt take me long to spot the pro beggar crowd in aberdeen

camped outside morrisons/shopping center near cex then along main street there a gang of them from the ladies to the men many was foreigners

the other crowd was hidden but if you know what to look for they was there

Last homeless guy I came across was sleeping rough with his Border Collie in a shop doorway near Waterloo Station in London.

I went to the Sainsburys store round the corner for some milk, and while I was there I bought him some sandwiches and a box of dog biscuits for his Collie. He cried when I gave them to him and thanked me profusely so I sat and talked to him for a while. He was very well spoken and obviously quite intelligent, but a combination factors had put him where he was.

When I left him, on the verge of tears myself, I thought of one of my dear old Mum's maxims, "There but for the Grace of God go I".

Ended up in my van for 6 weeks.

Thankfully it was mostly converted by that point. Private Tennant's on Jersey can be evicted within 24 hours.
My ex failed to honor our agreement two months before I was due to leave the country

Great 6 weeks living by the beach swimming every ight and showering on the slip. Riding kite buggies till the sun went down.
Even when I moved into digs after 3 weeks I dumped my stuff in the room and spent most nights in the van

When my 16 year marriage broke up 12 years ago, all I had were the clothes I was wearing and £20,000 of debt. It would have been so easy to give in, but my family and the few true friends I had saw me through it. Without them, I could have ended up on the streets with no hope and no way of digging myself out of my situation.

When working down at Pompey we used to regularly see a guy camped out by the tunnel that leads from Gunwharf Quays. His cover was blown one day when we saw him get picked up by someone in a Mercedes. Their greeting was more than just helping someone who'd fallen on hard times

My brother was accosted by a 'homeless' guy who asked if he had any change for a cup of tea. My brother said no, but then went to a cafe and bought the guy a cup of tea. When he got back and handed it to him, the 'homeless' guy looked at it and asked if bro was taking the pee...

I was out cyling down by the river a few weeks back (i.e. before it turned a bit nippy) and I spotted a gentleman of ethnic origin sat on a bench, with a load of carrier bags at his feet. A couple of times since, I've passed the same spot and the bags are always there, with or without the owner. So I suspect he's sleeping rough somewhere nearby.

Seen some programs, how true they are is questionable as with all TV, but they reckoned if you're in a large city centre with a good spot it was anywhere from £300-£700 a day plus all the food you can eat.

A lot aren't homeless and do it for the cash.

There are now teams not far from us, they get dropped off at large junctions, and there will be two or three at each traffic light post with a sign, this is on the outskirts of a large town.

I feel for anyone who is genuinely homeless through whatever means got them there. But there are a lot of people in it for the money.

There used to be a guy around 10 years ago, I'd see him most mornings on my way to work. He lived in the woods and had a trolley with all his belongings in, I'd see him walking down towards the town (a good 5 miles away), and occasionally see him on the way home. Must have been a tough fella as he was there all winter.

I watched this a year back and was angered that people have homes from the council yet beg as there too lazy to get a job

my sister is a senior social worker and has worked in almost every aspect of social work. A while back she said that the majority of people sleeping rough have one of three issues, mental health problems, drink dependency or alcohol abuse.

I’m by no means an alcoholic but have missed days off work when I was younger from drinking too much and having a hang over.

The thing is I wanted a nice car, house and to go on holiday so like everyone else I stopped doing it. Sadly for some people the addiction is too much or there brains can’t tell them to stop

I donate to the RNLI and no one else gets a penny off me other than the Poppy’s once a year

an ex is a charity worker earning £45k and doesn’t do a great deal of work for it.

One of my ex-workmates served his apprenticeship with the RNLI and he told us that the last thing the RNLI needs is dribs and drabs of donations; it makes most of its income from bequests. And then wastes a good chunk of it

used to be a tramp in the 80s would walk the A1 from London to Edinburgh and back lorry drivers would give him lifts buy him a dinner etc very well educated and clean used to see him camped at the side of the A1 in wooded areas
