Training and Qualifications... What to do and where to do it ??

A couple of years ago I did a C&G L2 in Welding and fabrication. It got me started and taught me a lot. I've bought welders and built a few decent projects. I'd say I'm pretty competent to a DIY standard.

I work in the Custom Motorcycle industry and coding is generally not that important but never harmful.

However, I want to get better and get trained and qualified without going down the expensive route of coding for jobs I may never do....

What courses and qualifications can I do to improve my skills and techniques and at least have a qualification to show for it ???

If they're not suited to your particular needs, I'm sure he or some of the other lads will point you in the right direction.

The course does seem pretty basic. I think I've got most of what's offered already down. Although it does look like a great course for those who want to get started.

I'm looking for more advanced training and a recognised certificate to go with it.

It's a hard one concerning your industry / employment area. Some of the aerospace guys are crack on for things like custom bike frames - yet still thier college was much like other welders ( it's just the work experience that separates them)

I should find the specialist welding training providers within your comute distance and ask. Mostly I should assume it's walking the walk in your trade?

Absolutely. It will be what you can do not what codes you have. And a lot of it is DIY....

I'm self employed and build my own bikes. There are things I want to weld and try but don't because I don't want to ruin months of work with a botched weld.


Ideally, I'd work as an apprentice but I'm just too old and too busy to sweep floors and make Tea for the occasional opportunity to learn stuff.
