Trailers...

Now, before the H&S nerds jump on the thread, its about buying and not building, I don't have the time for that at the moment!

We've got a 14'x7' drop side plant trailer already, but for the last 4 months, its been permanently full of fencing kit or logs from various sources. So the time has come to look at purchasing a second road towable trailer of similar capacity.

I've had a browse at the 355000 million results for tipping trailer, drop side trailer and plant trailer with the conclusion that there's obviously plenty out there at sometimes quite ridiculous prices.

Thought about Truck and Plant Trader, but can't find a copy anywhere locally.

Any search tips, or dealers I should check out?

BPI Associates and Bipspotter auctions always have plant trailers coming up for reasonable prices. I am considering buying one for towing buckets and small plant but id struggle with the lack of space in the workshop/yard. I think id get fed up of having to move it everyday. That, and the fact ive got to do my towing licence!!!

just make sure it still has the identification numbers on it and nothings been ground off . theres ;theres loads of nicked trailers flying around and the old bill do check on them

Total train weight of under 3.5t and you don't need the +E on your standard B license. Over 3.5t you need the +E.

You wont get many car, plant trailer & load combo's that come in at under 3500kg.

F.J. If your thinking of using a trailer for business then you may need to have a tachograph fitted to your van for use when the trailer is attached and even possibly an operator licence depending on if it would be used for hire or reward.

I have lwb sprinter and just bought a discovery so that rules me out keeping under the 3.5t limit! The bucket I have in at the moment weighs 1.5t and isnt even that big!

I realise that I'd need a tacho fitting but as I will only be using the trailer for picking up stuff to repair then dropping back off I think I skip the need for an O licence!!!! I hope

Damn!!! why is there always a bump in the road. Would I need an O licence if I was to do my 7.5t licence and buy a flat bed maybe?

7.5 tonne & trailer def need O licence. If you dont go far you might not need a tacho & you might get away with a restricted O licence.

If I had a 7.5t flat bed I wouldn't need a trailer

you would still need tacho and a o licence + your own tacho digital card + good money pot to support the o licence + the right parking premises for the vehicle

Then possibly driver cpc so it gets even more complicated. Restricted o licence is only for transporting your own goods

I don't know why I bother some times as there is so much B*******t that you have to go through just to lone the pockets of some one else. If I went through all that to pick up and drop off a job it could possibly price me out of the job factoring all the expenses!!

If you're planning on using a discovery and trailer, you won't need a operating licence and cpc only applies to hgv/bus drivers.

If you're over the maximum towing weight limit, you need a tacho and digital card for it. That's it!

overload, not to cause any argument but cpc does not only apply to hgv/bus drivers, a cpc applies to hold a o licence as well,
if he was stopped by vosa using the disco and trailer and the goods on board were not his, who then is paying for the transportation of the goods

know exactly what your saying FJ, but were dealing with vosa here and the point is they will say someone has to pay for the cost of transportation wheather its shown on your invoice or not as its not your goods so you would not pick up for nowt so costs are built in some where, the trouble with the examples that are shown by overload with ref to o licence is that it looks black and white, till you read in to it, and find out its not that simple, you get a clever mr vosa and you have a fight on your hands...just saying
