I'm sure someone on here will know the answer, my van can tow a maximum of 2000 Kgs and I'm looking to buy a trailer ,the trailer I would like has a gross weight of 2700 Kgs can I legally tow this, it would never be loaded up with anything like the vans maximum towing weight but I need the size of trailer to get my stuff in. Something in the back of my mind says I can't do it but Google isn't helping, my licence isn't a problem I'm old enough to have the correct class on my licence.

Where the sum of the maximum plated weights of the towing vehicle and of the trailer added together exceed the plated GCW of the towing vehicle, this is not a problem as long as the ‘actual’ weights of the vehicle and trailer (which may not be fully laden at the time) do not exceed the plated GCW.
