How do trailer trackers work? Has anyone used one or got recommendations for one?
Need to sleep on that ( that's a clue)There is a legal loophole to building trailers but youl have to work out what it is for yourself
I have read through the 185 page manual for the trailer IVA. Like everything else these days it is a tick box exercise. There are no checks made on the strength of welds. No checks made that the brakes actually work. All they care about is meeting a standard - ie lights fitted in correct places etc. As long as you tick the right boxes you are fine
i have a portamig 216 which does all i need for welding thin car steel to welding pretty thick metal, dont think ive welded anything whicker than 4mm with it.high all thanks for accepting me.
I’m setting up to make trailers in my garage, so seeking advice on a welder. I will be welding angle and box section around 3mm thick, but would like to ensure I am able to also weld occasional car body steel without burning holes everywhere. I only have 13amp sockets to work with.
What would be the best tool for the job on a budget?
Thanks.
That is just paperwork. No tests to see if they really work! The brakes have to have certification.
if i was you i would build a single trailer then take it to be IVA`d then once it passes do carbon coppies
You cant do that.
You either build one / test one & get one certificate with one chassis number on it or build one for type approval then build many.
However type approval is costly in 10's to 100's £k.
An iva for trailers only needs one for conformity then you can build to that spec for the rest providing there identical
We made 250+ lighting towers like this and had a legal team go through it with a fine tooth comb

thats what i meant do one to see if you can build them to pass then build each one and iva every one knowing its the same as 1st one so gaurenteed to pass. You cant do that.
