I need to put a light inside my tractor livestock trailer
what is the best way to do this?
shoult i just take a single core cable from the blue wire of
the 7 core cable and have a earth return?
If your tractor is wired for a fog light and its not been used on the trailer then i see no problem doing it that way. Just make sure it runs on the outside of the body or if inside, run it inside some steel conduit so as the cable doesn't get eaten by your hungry/bored livestock
In the days before cars and trailers were fitted with fog lights, the blue wire was always used for caravan interior lighting, then when fog lights became mandatory the standard 7 pin plug didn't have enough pins for all the road lights, so the seven pin supplementary plug was introduced to run internal accessories, nothing wrong with what your intending to do really, except if a caravan with fog lights is plugged in they will be on all the time, run the earth to pin 3, it should be the white wire
I would have said fit a fog light and a grey type socket
On my van and one of the trailers (box) I fitted a supplementy socket, and think I have now ended up using all the pins! On the trailer I have fitted reverse lights, LED interior lighting, twin worklamps on the back and a rear view camera
yes i would go for the extra auxillary socket so that you stay within the law should you need to pull a trailor in foggy weather that way you can also add a switch in the cab

on older tractors i would attach a plug two the wiring for the plough light and attach another plough light to the trailer. if it's a new type tractor it might have a socket for a flashing light somewhere in the cab you could just wire it to connect to that.
another option might be to tap Into the parking rights and put a couple of sidelights inside the trailer
