That could get expensive if you’ve a hundred acres!10hp per acre seems reasonable to me.

10hp per acre seems reasonable to me.
there is nothing wrong with it, it justs takes a bit of getting used too. it worked on plenty of tractors for many yearsBut if you've nothing to compare it too is it going to be odd? I've not used anything apart from the Leyland so it might be OK?
2 or 24 acres it would do just as good a jobLooks like my little grey fergie is just right then, 24hp to look after a couple of acres![]()
looking at the the ford is straight forward compared to the DB, while the ford 3-4th is right across the gearbox, to me the DB is all over the place, but if you grow up with it its 2nd nature, so we all adapt, for me it was fords.I grew up driving David Browns since I was fit to reach the pedals.
In latter years I've driven masseys and I still get it wrong as 1st and reverse are the opposite way around from the db.

I think? ?
As for the ford box, it defies logic as the gears should go up sequentially across the gate like a car.
This is what it should be like.

Then you're probably limited by the size of available bailers and trimmers. Minescule mowers and toppers can be picked up but I don't know if micro hedge trimmers or bailers will be easy to come by. A well matched size machine /tractor is important. If you want to trim in the conservationally acceptable window (winter) and you've any kind of hills or wet ground, you may well be glad of 4wd.
While the freedom to do what you want/need when you want to use hard to put a price on, it's always interesting to cost compare buying the slightly bigger kit needed to do a job yourself for x years and have to sit in the seat doing it, with just picking up the phone to a contractor.
i.e, if you decided to contract out the hedge trimming, for example, it might let you confidently get a smaller, cheaper tractor. The saving of which would pay for several years trimming. Hypothetically.
The DB and MF are closer to a car gate, something we drive every day.looking at the the ford is straight forward compared to the DB, while the ford 3-4th is right across the gearbox, to me the DB is all over the place, but if you grow up with it its 2nd nature, so we all adapt, for me it was fords.
Jd were one of the first tractor manufacturer's to apply ergonomics to tractor design. They were way ahead of MF, Ford, etc.I always found john deer's to be much more straight forward to drive, im sure it would only take a few minutes for the average car driver to figure it out!
(ok....maybe not the average car driver....that average has been going down hill for years!)![]()

It seems to be very tidy/clean and not just pressure washed within an inch of its life! very low hours at just over 2000Nice! That looks tidy!
I want a hedge cutter for my JD 2450. My neighbour does it for us but sometimes when he is busy I feel we shouldn't bother him so much (we do pay him). Also, if I had my own I could sort rough bits of ground out that he simply doesn't have time to faff with.
Thats the plan to adapt it to take a euro 8 style head stock, seems to be the most common for most of the attachmentsThat ticks a lot of boxes…..euro 8 head stock and the worlds your lobster
The loader does detach, you can see the holes on the front lower section of the frame where there would have been legs and a big pin either side that you can just see above the fuel cap to pull out, in theory...Good choice of tractor. Old enough to be simple to maintain but modern enough to be nice to use.
Watch out for rust on the panels, they tend to rust but otherwise they're a reliable tractor.
They're also a well balanced tractor, better than a MF on wet ground.
You could probably make some mods to make the loader easily detachable.
So it looks like ive bought this
