Hi

can anyone who is up to speed with current technology help shed some light on these for me please,

l want to fit a tracker to my 5th wheel camper so a quick trawl round the forums throws up this device

£444 ouch but as soon as your "van" moves its alerts an operator who rings you and tells you its movin !



bit more digging and l found this which appears to do the same

its a more reasonable £160 does the same but texts you direct to tell you its moving and continues to text its location



and then on amazon l found this one

even better its less than £30 its will text you when it moves, tell you its location, and has 2 channels that l can text back and operate things, they suggest engine cut but as its a 5th wheeler and has electric brakes l could tell it to put the brakes on if un authorized movement is detected ??

or switch the hazards on or sound an alarm etc etc



so what am l missing why does the price vary from £444 to 30 quid ? normally you get what you pay for but these seem to work the same ???

A PAYG phone with tracking software is even cheaper. If you want something that can ring fence etc then do a search for tk106, there are other tk's that do more or less

I'm sure I read recently (possibly on this forum) that in the UK use of remote engine cut out is illegal when the vehicle is in motion.

How about a "tile" do a google search if you think it's a ceramic thing for bathrooms or kitchens,easy to hide and needs no batteries

Mate has a new caravan with OE maker fitted tracker. His previous caravan was stolen. He fitted a motor mover and I wired it up. Within 30 seconds of me disconnecting the battery he had a phone call informing him that something was happening. Impressive. I think it is a case of "getting what you pay for". So a cheap tracker might have been a second class letter instead of the 30 second phone call ?

If you will pay for it they will take it. They hope you dont find the cheap one first. etc etc

I have a 5th wheel and a Cobra tracking device was fitted when we had it. Its in storage and apparently its now flat. SO be wary. It depends how you intend using the 5th wheel as to what device you need and the current draw. etc

P.S what model 5th wheel do you have . Ours is Celtic Rambler

Not always. The Cobra tracker fitted to mine is only useful to tell me where the 5th wheel is after I NOTIFY them its been nicked. and that aint cheap to get fitted.

thanks for the replies, l have ordered the amazon one, l will have a test of it and see how it performs, if l just throw it on the passenger seat of my car it should text me everytime l drive off, will see how sensitive it is and how reliable it is

uk racer 5 th wheel is going to be used for nearly full timing, it is set up along side my barn and connected up to the mains, going to install a battery bank under the seats with a charger on a timer to keep the batteries fully charged, will look at solar panels when l get round to it, only thing using 12v will be the security system ( l think )
and its a Denali, way past the towing capabilities of a uk pick up l think at 5500kg
