If you look at any galvanic series table, Aluminium should corrode sacrificially to Iron....in practice it doesnt because the Oxide forms on the Aluminium surface and protects the Aluminium. I think that the presence of Iron in the water can interfere with the Oxidation process and reduce its effectiveness but Im not sure how severe this is....I suspect, not very, because otherwise we would be hearing of the issues.
Ive read that Aluminium Radiators are greener because they heat up quicker....does that really use less fuel....I should expect the difference between steel and Aluminium "heating up" times to be small and would equalise when cooling down...????
Sadly these days we are looking at 0.1% savings on heating systems so factors like that come into play
