No brakes? That said boat trailer brakes rarely work as they should, especially after a few dunks in the sea followed by being laid up for yonks.

Had brakes, and trailer had never been dipped, needed 5 ft to get the boat off. Just brakes not the best, going too fast too.


Was looking for a picture of one on a trailer, and came across a video of the event we were on our way home from, made me feel quite nostalgic….and old!

Some years ago I had a very hairy moment towing a yacht (j24) middle of the night, half asleep, down hill. Was driving an old Rover SD1..V8 thing, superb tow car until I tried to slow down togo through a chicane of cones as one lane was closed, then over to the other carriageway. Boat was pushing the car, so stopped braking and just accepted I was taking the easy route and lots of cones with me….must have relocated about 200 by the time I came out the other end. It would have not been much over2.5 ton if that.

Not just t for the rules but for common sense safety..
I always ensure the ability of me and the vehicle.
Seen to many cockups of folk dragging caravans and trailers overweight.
Folk say my rig is over weight and sized. Thing is they don't know the rules themselves. Granted its big but just under on size and weight just over 100kg under. And I always weigh on public weigh bridge. Lucky where i m collecting the new boat has a weigh bridge few hundred yards away.

I owned the Transit and sold it before that picture was taken. The back was quite badly corroded.

Yes, I think he had to go on the ferry as I doubt the van would have made it up the hill heading out.

I know that bl00dy hill! Me and Mrs RWD drove up it a couple of years ago in our Mini (proper one) without an exhaust. It got ripped off coming off the ferry from Skye!
