getting there...

Hi folks.
In the next 6 weeks or so, I'll need to get a restored Land Rover chassis from West Cumbria to the galvanizers in Co. Durham (about 105 miles) and back again a week later.
The firm I want to deal with can't collect that far away and the cost of getting someone to transport it would be quite dear - not far off the cost of transporting a whole car.
The ideal would be to hire a drop-side transit pick-up but they're wanting £90 a day to rent one and I'd need it for a day to drop off and another day to collect a week later.
Years ago, at least one of the aftermarket chassis companies used to transport their freshly built chassis around the country on a towing dolly behind a saloon car. It dawns on me that I could knock up something similar.
The Land ROver is leaf sprung so I could reattach the rear axle with no propshaft, clip on a lightbar and then just attach some sort of towbar to the front. I already have trailers I could borrow the towbracket off, so I'd just need an A frame I could bolt to the box section.
Am I being overly simplistic here? Have I overlooked something obvious or is this a go-er? (I'm told the chassis weight 150-200kg before the axle or anything is attached).
Thank you.
