Hello Boyo,
If you want a cheap machine for starters you can get a SIP Migmate 130 for £85 from Portishead across The Bridge, tel. 01275 844845. I have just purchased one but from the messages on this forum, I may regret the purchase.

Has anybody got anything good to say about the SIP Migmate??

Personally I would learn gas welding as this is the most versatile form of welding then move on to mma/ mig/ tig, all have their advantages over each other but gas welding will give you a good knowledge & install the basics of welding, ( IMO )

The one great thing about gas welding is you actually get used to seeing the weld pool and how the metal 'flows' and how you can control it, without all the hassle of trying to manipulate a torch and maintain arc length and so on, as well.

Plus how to blow holes an' stuff, so no change there then

I forgot to mention you can also boil a kettle with gas, try doing that with an arc set !!

Lmao! it does seem that gas is more versatile... either way, its gonna be mig or tig first (probably mig) then i'll get a gas torch and see what happens...

Gas welding is a good method to learn plus you can braze,heat and bend stuff and oxy / acet cutting,also it's great for blowing up your place of work !!
MIG or TIG is safer.
