Total newbie looking for a starter welding set...

Hello,

I'm looking for a entry level welding set to learn the ropes with welding. For my first project I want to build a mini wood burning stove, to keep me warm in a touring caravan that I will be living in while I build my house.

Not looking to spend much more than £100.00 cheaper the better really. I have seen ARC welders in ALDI before but they were like £35.00 so would rather spend a bit more and get a very basic but good quality entry level welder.

I wont be welding anything more than 3mm mild steel on to 5mm box section or 3mm sheet. Not clued up on welders at all so need to do my research but if anyone can point me in the right direction it would be very much appreciated!

For £100 your going to be looking at arc Welders so the aldi one is as good as most for that price. Don't get there rods but get some decent rods such as murex or the like. Auto mask also makes leading much easier

They don't seem to be selling them at the moment. I found this one on eBay and it's only 40-80 amps.

Would that weld 3mm mild steel so I can fabricate a small wood burner for my first project, what size rods?

As far as cheap arc welders, generally those under 120A are not very good. Those under100A tend to be useless.

Check locally for used ones. I see them cheap often on Craigs List and the like.
