I would get that TOS lathe shipped over and installed ASAP, even if I had to fit a tiny motor and take very light cuts. The spec (16” swing over ways, 23.5” swing on gap, 2” spindle bore) will be ideal for those tractor bits, etc, and let you put big shafts through the headstock. With a machine like that, you could soon become a very popular person in the district......shafts for pumps, wind generators, tractor bits for my neighbour, motorbike bits for me.....
.....a smaller lathe for which I could afford a VFD etc. would probably give me all the scope I need.
Does anybody know whether modern VFDs are tolerant of mains voltage fluctuations? The OP’s power supply is limited in capacity, so there might be quite big fluctuations/spikes when neighbours switch things on and off.
