Torque setting

hey guys, I fitted new wheel bearings to the Escort the other day and when I came to fit the hub nut I looked in the Haynes manual for the torque. setting and it says 192 ft lbs? is this correct? my torque wrench only goes up to 150
Also the hub nut is a very strange thing made from lots of thin nuts in a cage, and it seems to be a strange size that none of my sockets fit really well, what's that about.

Just tighten it f***ing tight, the stack of thin nuts are designed to lock together similar to double nutting to prevent it conning loose, iirc they are a 30 or 32mm but may not be a good fit because of the cage.

The nuts are self locking
1- 3/16 single hex socket fits
It that is what the book says that will be the torque

Hi Spark Plug, Thanks mate, well that's what I found, because of the cage the socket I could get on just slipped when I got over 100 lbs ft Torque, I found an old imperial socket and hammered it on and then tightened it until I almost burst a blood vessel, I hope that will do.

192 Sounds Familiar. I Believe They Can Only Be Used Once So I Used A "Solid" Hub Nut From Scrap Yard.

i replaced mine with proper nuts too. Those caged things are crap. 192 sounds about right, i can remember buying a new torque wrench when i did mine as my current one didn't go high enough

When I did mine I welded up a long extension bar and then worked out how far a long it I had to stand to get the right torque. Think it worked!

bit of a faff lol just do what the fitters in work do and use the 2 vein technique. When you can see both veins in his head its tight enough lol
