Torch options

I have some very rusty exhaust bolts that need to be removed. Heat seems like a good option. Only trouble is I don't have a torch. Would a plumbers blow torch be up to the job or would I need something a bit more beefy? Is there anything between a blow torch and a full oxy actolene torch?

Mapp gas would be better and do the job.

propane heats to 3600 f and map 3730.f there's not a lot in it

If any are on u clamps just shear them off and replace clamp

exhaust clamps if your lucky some will come off but many dont even with warming do as above cut them off and replace them if thats the best option

and a vortex plumbers blow lamp will heat them up used on many nuts on cars always torment the mechanics using a plumbers blow lamp for there job

I have a benzomatic torch with cylinders of both propane & mapp gas for it and I can say for certain that the mapp gas is way hotter than the propane for heating stuff.

In fact the mapp gas is very difficult to use for plumbing as it overheats the copper & boils the solder.

Do you mean the exhaust manifold studs or exhaust clamps?, if the clamps, just do as already suggested and cut them off.

Just done a quick Google search and mapp gas looks like it's a goer. According to Wikipedia also very useful for cooking as it doesn't leave any taste - so that would be the baked Alaska sorted!! I'm guessing you don't need a seperase oxygen supply?

I've had one of these set ups for some years, wouldn't be without it. Oxy/Acet. would be good but no call for it. You may get one cheaper but you get the idea.

That's very similar to the torch I have, though mine was free from work. The head had stopped working & we weren't allowed to repair it so a new one was bought. The old one followed me home & I can't remember what was wrong but it it was a simple repair & has worked perfectly since!
